Unity Festival Expands, Announces First Headliners!

Grammy Winner Casting Crowns and International Sensation Hillsong LIVE
will anchor two nights of 4 night event; longer hours allow for more music and family fun.

The first two headline acts for the Unity Christian Music Festival in 2013 were announced today, along with an expansion of the popular annual event. Festival Director Kevin Newton revealed the headline artists for both Thursday, August 8th and Friday, August 9th and unveiled plans to extend the hours of operation on those same two days. “It is exciting, as we plan our 13th year of Unity, to be able to say that we continue to grow and improve the festival”, said Newton. “This year’s plans promise to make it even more of a destination and an even more amazing family entertainment value.”

It was announced that festival hours will be expanded on Thursday and Friday, with gates open at 1 pm on Thursday, Friday and Saturday, giving festival fans 3 full days of music, games, seminars, food and fun. “We have heard from many families the past couple of years that Unity is their #1 summer event and a vacation choice for many and that they wanted more time to take in all the activities once they were at the festival. Having 3 full days will create some space for more music, more speakers and special events, more time for families to enjoy the kids areas, explore the dozens of ministry partner booths and displays, shop in the Merch tent, enjoy Camp Unity games, Inflatable games, the Pinball tent and all the other fun activities click for source. It will also allow us to add some new activities to the non musical part of the event that should be really meaningful.” Newton also added that having more Unity would NOT be costing families more money. “3 FULL days, same low prices”, was the comment and it was pointed out that tickets are already on sale at the same prices as last year’s event. “3 Day passes are just $30 until December 31st, an incredible deal that is now even better with the longer hours and added features we will be able to offer”, Newton said. Newton also confirmed that the popular “Day Zero”, a free evening concert on Wed. , August 7th would once again kick off the festival weekend. Gates will open at 4 pm on “Day Zero” and no tickets are needed.

Unity‘s first headline announcement of the year revealed that Thursdays Unity Main Stage, presented by International Aid, will feature Hillsong LIVE. This modern worship phenomenon plays worldwide and is highly sought after in their limited North American appearances. “We have wanted to bring the Hillsong experience to Unity for some time”, Newton commented. “This very hard to book group is known for unforgettable live shows that involve the audience at a deep and intimate level. We are thrilled to have them come to our event.”

Friday’s Main Stage lineup will bring the return of the #1 group in Christian music, Casting Crowns.
“They don’t come any bigger than Casting Crowns”, said Newton in announcing the groups third Unity appearance. “They have dominated Christian music in recent years and continue to impact multiple generations of fans.”

In an unprecedented six-year span with nearly 4.5 million career album sales, a GRAMMY Award, an
American Music Award, 23 Dove Awards and 8 chart-topping radio singles, Casting Crowns remains
focused on discipleship through music.

The members of Casting Crowns each serve in student ministry in their local churches. “Our songs have
always come from our ministry in the church,” lead singer Mark Hall says. “They start as messages on Wednesday night, things we’re teaching our teenagers and their families. Our typical Wednesday night crowd is about 70% students and 30% parents. So we’re a family ministry and that comes out in the crowds who come to our concerts. You’ll see a six-year-old and a 60-year-old at a Crowns concert.”
This is what appealed to Unity organizers, according to Newton. “Unity brings out families, multiple generations and a group like Casting Crowns is a perfect fit for us. It is a band that everyone loves and helps achieve one of our key goals-entire families enjoying music together, entire churches worshipping together. Unity is the ultimate family event and Casting Crowns is the perfect Unity headliner.”

Unity will be announcing more artists over the coming weeks, Newton said and fans should expect more of both the top current bands and many new artists that are just breaking into the top tier and have never played live in West Michigan before.
