Muskegon, MI- Unity Christian Music Festival officials announced the first artist names today for the 2015 festival. Festival Director Kevin Newton confirmed that the popular “Day Zero” concert, a totally free event, will again open the festival on Wednesday, August 5th. “Unity is celebrating its’ 15th anniversary this year and as the plans start to come together, we believe it will be our best year yet”, Newton said. “Being able to offer a totally free show on “Day Zero” is very exciting to our Board, Sponsors and Coordinators. We love being able to invite the community, at no charge, to come and join us at Unity for great music and family fun.”

“We are also very pleased to announce that Country Dairy, a long time Unity sponsor, is returning for a second year as the Main Stage sponsor! This wonderful, family owned and community minded company truly believes in what the Unity Festival offers and we couldn’t ask for a better partner”, Newton commented.

The Unity Main Stage, presented by Country Dairy will once again feature a combination of the biggest names in Christian music and a great number of new and emerging artists who will play at Unity for the first time more information. “We know that our audience loves seeing new bands live that they have been hearing on the radio or online and we work hard to bring those groups to Unity each year”, Newton said.

The headliners and speaker for the Day Zero lineup were announced and is a perfect example of Unity’s blend of established stars and up-and –coming artists. Headlining the Wednesday, August 5 show will be first time Unity band, For King and Country. Brothers Luke and Joel Smallbone make up the band that has shot to stardom since their debut album CRAVE in 2012.

The duo from Australia is one of the most requested new acts ever at Unity, Newton said. “This band has come out of nowhere to the top of our audience’s list. We expect a really exciting night at Day Zero, being able to have them headline our free show.” The brothers of Christian pop star Rebecca St. James have their own style and have been called “the Christian Coldplay” by industry insiders.

“The power of music can impact our mood, emotions, our day. But when you merge the strength of music with the heart, hope and passion of the Gospel… it has the ultimate power not only to change someone’s day, but to impact them for eternity. This is why we write music and sing songs – we hope that people will be moved, encouraged and stirred to live a life for Someone greater than themselves”, Joel Smallbone commented.

Also appearing on the Unity Main Stage, presented by Country Dairy is Unity fan favorite Kutless. “Kutless is a band that is loved by fans of all ages and tastes. In fact, fans have alternating definitions of Kutless as a best-selling rock ..,no, worship.no, rock/worship band”,  said Newton. Lead singer Jon Micah Sumrall explains it this way: “We felt led to create original songs that could be sung on an acoustic guitar in a Bible study or in an arena with the masses shouting God’s praises. We love worship. We love rock. Instead of separating the two styles, now we just do worship songs that rock,” Sumrall says.

Jon Micah Sumrall will also be the featured speaker for Day Zero, Newton announced. Sumrall has a passion for sharing God’s love through music, speaking and adventure. An active outdoorsman, skier, snowboarder and athlete, Sumrall found his deepest expression through music and his role as a husband and father. “I am daily amazed at the way God has brought the many facets of my life together in His perfect plan. Looking back in my life, I see consistently God’s hand in my life. Even as a young child I feel that He was preparing me for what I am currently doing today.”

Opening acts for Day Zero are still to be announced. “We think the Day Zero lineup will be a great mix of styles and a great introduction to Unity for the entire community to enjoy”,

Newton said 4gbssha. Newton said that artist announcement for the remainder of the festival could be expected in the next few weeks. Unity 2015 will be held August 5, 6, 7, and 8 at Heritage Landing Park, on the waterfront in downtown Muskegon.
